Curriculum Vitae

Renata Kasasova was born in Slovakia in 1965. Fleeing her country in 1984, just a few years before the collapse of the communist empire, Renata arrived in Sydney where she now works and resides. It was not until 1992 when Renata began exploring painting as a form of expression.

As an artist with no formal art training, Renata has developed an expressive quality in her art through practice and observation. Inspired by artists from the Renaissance period through to the Modernists, including Michelangelo, Camille Claudel, Picasso and Kandinsky, Renata’s art expresses a number of unique styles.

Most recognized through her oil pastel drawings, these works present bold purple lines on vibrant ochre backgrounds. Symbolizing tension, movement and an overall sensuality of figurative representation, the work also reflects spiritual connotations. The white lines in particular express an inner energy radiating in aura-like movements. Depicted alone, the figures create an explosive intensity which reiterates the emotion content of the work.

In “Nature of Body and Landscape” Renata is continuing the romantic realism of her figurative pastel drawings while moving to an exciting world of colour and abstraction in her oil works. Using velvet like texture in “Dancing in Red”, tranquility of greens in “Peaceful Landscapes”, melting flames of “Dante’s Inferno”, depth and beauty of a single colour in “Prussian Blue” Renata is capturing the internal spirituality and expression of a creator who tries to communicate words and emotion through colour. The happy playfulness of Australian landscape is visible in “Nature Series” and “That Yellow Fence”. More intimate emotion is set in “Mother and Child”, “Dark City” and “Mind in Overload”. Where in “Lovers, Cups and Grapes” Renata expresses passion and fertility, the “She Wolf” represents an almost violent intensity of the female psyche.

Renata has been exhibiting for past 10 years. She was a member of 1 + 2 Artist Studio in Rozelle, the largest artist syndicate in Australia. Her studio is now at the Cyclops Toys building in Leichhardt. Renata’s work is collected nationally and internationally.
